Walter "Bud" Jerome Galusha, Jr., 96, of Puyallup, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024 surrounded by family.
Bud was born to Walter and Eva Galusha on January 8, 1928, in Chehalis, Washington. Bud graduated from Chehalis high school where he excelled at numerous sports. From there he went on to play pro baseball as a pitcher for 2 years. After that he joined the Naval Reserves. He returned to Chehalis and attended St Martin's College where he graduated with a degree in business. During this time he started the youth Babe Ruth little league program at Chehalis. During his senior year at St Martin's he was drafted to active duty by the Navy and toured the Mediterranean on the USS Coral Sea. After his service he then attended Pacific Lutheran College graduating with a degree in Education. He started teaching at Franklin Pierce High School in 1956 where he also coached baseball and football. In 1971, a year after Washington High School opened, Bud started teaching there and became the Athletic Director. He finished out his career there retiring in 1989.
Bud married Adonna, the love of his life, in 1957, who survives him. Bud is also survived by his son Scott Galusha (Elena), daughters Gwyn Smith (Steve), Shannon Konishi (Kevin) and Karen Dove (Donald) as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bud was preceded in death by daughter Kristine Near (Scott), grandson Joseph Caron, his parents and numerous other family members.
Bud was known for his great sense of humor and love of sports and fishing but moreover he was devoted to his wife and family and dedicated to his career. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A service to honor Bud’s life will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Ave., Puyallup, WA 98371. Reception to follow.
