Viola Selma Petersen

September 16, 1921 — August 25, 2021

In loving memory of Viola Petersen who passed away on August 25th, 2021 to be with our Lord and Savior. She was born in Center, North Dakota on September 16th, 1921. In 1924 her family moved to Bismarck North Dakota. There she resided with her parents Alfred and Hulda and 9 siblings. After being educated in Bismarck, she worked for Ma Bell as a telephone operator. She and her sister, Grace, moved to Washington State in 1941. During World War II she worked at Boeing as a riveter on aircrafts (Rosie the Riveter). Six of her brothers all served in various branches of the service. After working at Boeing, she went back to work as a telephone operator in Seattle and Tacoma Washington. Later in her life she was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business at Marine View Welding. Viola was a dedicated volunteer for the Red Cross working with handicapped children. She also volunteered at Tacoma Lutheran Nursing Home helping the elderly. She was the oldest original member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Browns Point where she was their financial officer for a couple years. For years she gave her services to the church in many different ways. She was beloved by all the church members. She is preceeded in death by her husband, Carsten Petersen. Leaving behind Two children, Norlene (Charles) and Todd (Nancy), and 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She will be laid to rest at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup Washington.
