Vera (Babe) Lucille Bohrer

Babe was born and raised in the Puyallup Valley. Her parents were Ernest Keller and Eva Shaw. Her Grandparents were Chris and Mary Shaw. She spent most of her school days with them because they lived much closer to the Puyallup schools. While still in high school she met and married John Thun.

They lived on South Hill raising chickens, turkeys and kids. They had six children. Diny Robinson, husband Brian. Karl (Bean) Thun, wife Ginger. Chris Thun, wife Larki. Bruce Thun, wife Rosie. Mark Thun, wife Kristi. Eric Thun, wife Lee.

At that time they lived in a small house that John had built and had a few acres of raspberries and sold eggs to the co-op. The hill was not the thriving mass of  humanity it is today.  She would walk down the hill via old logging roads to visit family on lower Shaw Road and Pioneer.

One day she saw a Pheasant sticking his head up from behind a log. She got out the shotgun that she had never used and they had pheasant for dinner. She canned everything from the garden and orchard.

In 1950 they moved to the airport, known ever since as Thun Field. It is now the Pierce County airport. John built the coffee shop and she cooked for the pilots who couldn't get enough of her delicious pies. When they divorced, she and the three youngest children moved to Puyallup Valley.

In 1962 she was working at Good Sam hospital when she met and married Don Bohrer who was a long shoreman. They built a nice house on North Hill that she designed. She loved to travel and they spent every winter in Arizona.

In her lifetime she was a fantastic seamstress sewing clothes for her kids, making wedding dresses and ornate costumes for family. Quite a few of her granddaughters learned to knit and crochet from her. She was a master artist who painted both portraits and landscape. For a few years she was the pitcher on a slow-pitch Pierce County baseball team. She loved to bowl and was a good golfer being very proud of her golf trophies. She loved being around people; always upbeat and happy. a green lawn was always a temptation for her to do a few cartwheels.

Babe lived to be 101. She has 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great,great, grandchildren
