Susan Kay Schlechten, aged 77, passed away October 14, 2024, in Puyallup, Washington. She was born in Bozeman, Montana on December 23, 1946. Susan was affectionately known as Susie and brought joy and brightness to the lives of those around her.
Susie pursued higher education at Montana State University, where she later worked. Her career spanned various roles at accounting and legal firms, the Pierce County Conservation District, and the City of Puyallup, where she was highly respected for her diligence and integrity.
A lover of the outdoors, Susie cherished her time in the sun, whether it was walking her beloved dogs or hanging colorful banners around her home. She was a passionate baker, known especially for her cinnamon rolls every Christmas, and enjoyed sewing and reading. She enjoyed teaching her granddaughters to bake and cook, which brought her immense pleasure, continuing a legacy of culinary skills and family tradition.
Susie is survived by her husband, Joe Schlechten, daughter, Staci Sherrod and son-in-law Dave; son, Brian Schlechten and daughter-in-law Kristin; granddaughters, Heidi and Jenny Schlechten; and siblings Peggy Hilling, Terry and Marty Whalen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mart and Ella Mae Whalen.
A memorial service may be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heart and Cancer associations of your choice in memory of Susie. Her legacy of warmth, generosity, and kindness will forever be cherished and remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
