On June 1, 2024, Stephanie Lynn Burton peacefully passed away surrounded by her daughter and husband of 30 years, at their home in Puyallup, WA.
On August 15, 1965, in Springfield, OR Stephanie entered the world to loving parents Charles Sherman IV and Marilyn Sherman. Her parents were career military, so they moved around a few times in her early childhood, but settled down in Tucson, AZ in 1974. She completed her primary education in Tucson then went on to college at the University of Arizona where she attempted degrees in veterinary sciences and music (vocal) performance, but landed on a career in social work with a focus on child development.
In 1985 she met Tony (Burton) and after a long courtship, they were married in Las Vegas May of 1994 after having relocated to Portland, OR in 1993.
Then in February of 1996, she was blessed with a baby girl, Erika. Some months later, while working at a women’s and children’s shelter in Portland, she decided her calling was to stay at home and raise Erika.
In 2002, the family relocated to Federal Way, WA and in 2013 purchased their first home in Puyallup, WA.
July of 2020, Stephanie was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Every day was a mental and physical struggle, but she always tried to put it behind her. When things were especially difficult, she would pause, reflect, and recognize that there are others who have it worse than herself, then count her blessings.
Stephanie loved to cook and bake for people. She provided food for countless swim meets, lunches for teachers, and snacks and meals for many of the doctors and nurses she encountered as a result of her cancer.
She loved to read and could consume a book like it was breakfast. She was smart, sarcastic, and quick as a whip.
She truly appreciated all forms of music. Some of her favorite bands were Def Leppard, Van Halen, and AC/DC, and also artists like Cyndi Lauper and Billy Joel. Country music artists like Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, and Martina McBride could often be heard playing in her car. Stemming from her joy of music, Stephanie always enjoyed a good musical, especially her favorite, Les Miserables.
Stephanie was one of the nicest, kindest, most caring people anyone could have the fortune to meet. She always put other’s feelings and well being before hers. This included all creatures.
Stephanie is survived by her husband Tony of Puyallup, WA; daughter Erika of Vancouver, BC; brother Chuck (Beth) of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Charles Sherman IV (2015) and Marilyn Sherman (2012).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, in Portland, OR at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home located at 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd followed by reception.
