Shirley Marie Lundstrom passed away on 21 Nov 2020 at Rainier Nursing home in Puyallup Washington. She died from complications from Parkinson’s Disease. She had been a long-time resident of Ocean Shores, Washington. She was born 15 Jul 1941 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Marie Yanna Zitka.
Shirley graduated from Livingston High School in 1959. She was class Salutatorian. Graduated from Wisconsin State University in 1963 and later graduated from Central Washington University with a Master of Education degree.
Shirley met Rick Lundstrom during High School and they were married on 18 Aug 1962 in Wisconsin.
Shirley had a Saturday job at the Radio Station playing requests on her accordion when she was a teenager. During High School and then into college Shirley played accordion and was in a band The Rhondevoo Trio with Helen Lyght and Rick in Wisconsin. They appeared on Station WPRE in Wisconsin
Shirley taught school 3 years at Grandview High School and then 3 years at Aberdeen High School. She taught for 25 years at Grays Harbor College teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced typing. In 1990 the school replaced the typewriters with computers and so for the first time in 21 years she wasn’t teaching on typewriters. She said it had some challenges.
Shirley served 23 years as Co-op Work Experience Coordinator at Grays Harbor College, 20 years as Business Division Chairperson and 7 years as Scholarship Committee Chairperson.
After retirement in 1994 she went to work for Durney Travel Agency in Aberdeen. Shirley and Rick loved to travel and especially cruising. Their favorite trips were to the Islands in Hawaii.
She and Rick also played together under the name of Rick – A – Shirl’s and often went to Ronald Washington and played at a tavern there.
She and her husband Rick, along with Jeff Hood and Rob Hilliard were in a dance band called the Harbor Lights in Aberdeen area. They were frequent players at the Hoquiam Elks and Aberdeen Eagles Club
She is survived by her husband Rick of Puyallup. Sister in law, Betty Harrison Rolie of Puyallup Washington, and brother in law Jim Harrison of Quincy, Washington. Niece Cathy Cadd and her husband Bob Cadd, Nephews Terry and Robb Lee and Jamie and Daniel and his wife Connie Harrison.
Preceding Shirley in death was her father Frank Peter Zitka in 1992 and her mother Marie Yanna Zitka in 1995.
An Inurnment will be at Powers Woodlawn Abbey
