Shirley Jean Hays

SHIRLEY J. HAYS, 79, passed away January 11, 2021 at Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, WA. She was born October 12, 1941 in Centerville, IA to parents Alvin and Clara Wishmeyer. Shirley is a 1959 graduate of Salinas High School and attended Hartnell College in California. She had a career in Accounting in both staff and supervisory positions working at businesses all along the West Coast. She worked for national firms like Lucasfilm, Ltd and local businesses including Brantley Janson in Federal Way, WA. Shirley was an avid collector of antiques and Star Wars memorabilia. Her elegant glass and swan themed collections are notable. She served as Treasurer for the Green River Depression Era Glass Club and was a member of the Fenton Finders Club.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 45 years, Howard Hays, brother, David Wishmeyer, in-laws Virginia, Wayne, and Jim Hays, Nancy Wishmeyer, son, Mike Potter, daughter Cindy Potter-Gus, their spouses Brandi and Jim, and 6 grandchildren – Teysha, Kyle, Colter, Christopher, James, and Katie.

Shirley loved family gatherings and took joy in her family member’s accomplishments. She embraced extended family and friends as her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, January 22, 2021 at 1pm at the City of Sumner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to: Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America, Inc. PO Box 384 Williamstown, WV 26187.
