Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend made her way to heaven on March 11, 2021.
Born on July 3, 1935, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Shirley moved with her family to Washington
state and graduated from St. Leo High School in 1953. Devoted to her faith, she could be found
attending daily mass at St. Andrew’s Church in Sumner.
After being swept off her feet by a talented musician, Shirley married Hal in 1955. Together they
created a life in the Puyallup area where they raised their family. As her children grew up, she
served in various support staff positions within the Puyallup School District. A passionate sports
fan and competitor, she was honored to finish her career working for the district's athletic
director.
Shirley’s deepest joy was found in her role as a mom and adoring grandma. Arriving with
enthusiasm, she was a steadfast presence at her grandchildren’s events. Special gatherings always
included her cherished homemade pies. Her life was dedicated to loving and supporting her
family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her best friend, and devoted husband of 61 years, Hal. While
her presence will forever be missed, her spirit will live on in the family who loved her: her three
children, Laura (Jay), Kathi (Gordie), Donny (Adria); grandchildren: David, Mikala, Brandon,
Ariel (Dan), Mariah, Alec, and her great-grandson, Noah.
She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her unwavering faith in Christ.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Sumner Family Church, at 11:00 am., 1400 Silver St, Sumner, WA 98390
