Samuel R. Wheeler, age 85, passed away surrounded by his children on Saturday, June 16th, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington. Sam was born on May 12th, 1933 in Norfolk, Nebraska, and grew up in Oregon. He settled in Puyallup in the early 1950s, while enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Florence (Hansch) Wheeler, from Graham, WA, in 1954; they were married for 44 years, until her passing in 1998. Sam is survived by his daughters Beverly (Phil) Upperman, Cindy (Jack) Morris, and son Donny (Katie) Wheeler, as well as six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Sam was a Master Carpenter and worked locally in that industry for over 50 years, both as a superintendent for several building companies and as owner of S.R. Wheeler Construction Co. Sam was passionate about his family and the outdoors. He spent much of his time fishing and hunting with those he loved. Sam is deeply missed; a mentor to many and a true friend to all. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 5 pm on Thursday, June 21st, and a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 22nd, both at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup, Washington.
