Ruth Evelyn Johnson, 96, formerly of Kent, Washington passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Tacoma General Hospital at the age of 96.
She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and generous spirit is missed terribly but is also an amazing legacy she leaves with all who knew her.
Ruth was born on April 27, 1926, in Bismarck, North Dakota to Jeff Jeffords and Lillian Hoyt. She married her soulmate Leslie Gilmore Johnson on the 5th of April 1947 in Grand Forks, North Dakota by Pastor R.E. Stephens and witnessed by Irene Jeffords. They were partners and helpmates for 58 years. until his death in 2005. She was confirmed into the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota on the 31st day of December 1948.
In the early years of their marriage, she was not only an extraordinary homemaker but helped with the income as well. She worked as a checker at the A&P Market in White Center and eventually moved to an OA position with the Auburn School District until she retired.
Her Lutheran faith was an integral part of her life. She was an active parishioner and member of several churches including Hope Lutheran Church in SW Seattle, Atonement Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Milton, Peace Lutheran Church in Covington and Lutheran Church of the Cross in Kent.
Surviving are two sons, Leslie Richard (Margaret) Johnson and Clinton James (Shelly) Johnson; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross by Pastor Kirk Hulvey on the 7th of January 2023 at 11:00 AM. In leu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to Children’s Hospital @ Donate to Seattle Children's (seattlechildrens.org)
