Randall Patrick Brown passed away on August 12, 2022, in Tacoma, Washington, following a brief but valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. His beloved Rhonda May was by his side.
Randy was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on April 28, 1956, the middle child of Homer and Darlene Brown. Alongside his siblings and his close cohort of cousins, he enjoyed a childhood filled with sports, camping, and many other memorable family activities. He attended Sacred Heart Academy for twelve years and became a triple threat in high school, playing football, basketball, and baseball. As a sophomore he was a major factor in his school baseball team’s state championship and was named batting champion. Randy was also a skilled third baseman, playing for the Klamath Falls Falcons from 1972 to 1974.
In 1974 Randy graduated SHA and made his Beaver-loving family proud by attending Oregon State University, achieving an electrical engineering degree in 1978. He worked for the U.S. Navy from 1979 to 1985, taking up residence in the San Francisco Bay area as well as six months spent in Long Beach, California. In 1985 his cousin Matt Cavanaugh helped connect him to a job with the Federal Aviation Administration in the Puget Sound area, where he would become a manager and spend the rest of his career before his well-earned retirement.
After moving to Washington, he married Sheryl Randall in 1991, with whom he would have two children over their eleven-year marriage. He became a devoted father, coaching their baseball teams and teaching valuable life skills. While living in Puyallup he attended All Saints Catholic Church. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 2004 Randy met Rhonda May, forming a relationship that would last the rest of his life. Together they enjoyed gardening, exercising, cooking, trips to the beach, daily puzzles, watching all kinds of sports, and simply enjoying each other's company.
Randy never rested during his retirement years, enjoying many rounds of golf with friends, endless Beaver games, and taking opportunities to volunteer with hospitals and homelessness causes. He also enjoyed music, especially classic rock and the weekly radio show Breakfast With The Beatles, as well as pinochle and other card games (including “Scream and Scramble,” a family favorite). Randy will be fondly remembered for his giving nature, his humor, his faith, and his love of family.
He is survived by his siblings, Ron Brown and Teresa Alvarez; his sister-in-law, Tiffany Brown; his children, Jamie and Sam Brown; his stepchildren, Amy De Klyen, Kelly Mason, and Matthew and Zachary May; his nephews, Wyatt Brown and Tyler Alvarez; his nieces, Jessica Hurd and Hannah and Piper Brown; a veritable host of cousins and friends; and his love, Rhonda May.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Darlene Brown; his brother-in-law, Tom Alvarez; and his nephew, Mike Hurd.
