Naomi Jean Treadway

March 1, 1944 — September 28, 2022

Naomi Jean Treadway, lovingly known as Jeannie, died on September 28, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA at the age of 78.  Born March 1, 1944, in Toppenish, WA to Henry and Audry Grimes, she was called their miracle baby after surviving a very difficult birth.  She was one of five children.  Jeannie spent her childhood in Wapato, WA.  In 1954, her family moved to Sumner, WA.  In January 1956, they attended Sumner Assembly of God for the first time, where Jeannie remained a faithful member ever since.  After graduating from Sumner High School in 1962, Jeannie attended nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.  In 1968, she married Ernest (Ernie) Treadway, her loving husband of 53 years.  Soon afterward, they moved to Puyallup and started a family.

Jeannie’s greatest joy was caring for her family. She was a devoted, loving mother of three children: always supportive and always present.  She found joy in the simple things and loved to laugh and have fun with her family.  She was a cherished source of Godly wisdom and guidance.  When Jeannie became a grandma, she was affectionately called “Gammy” by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Jeannie enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing.  Every summer she spent many hours harvesting and canning the vegetables she grew in the garden – especially her famous green beans.  She picked berries each year and made delicious jam.  She also liked growing all kinds of flowers.  Jeannie was a talented seamstress and could sew anything, no matter how complex.  During the holidays, she loved to decorate the house, trim her beautifully flocked Christmas tree, and prepare delicious meals for family and friends.  Her homemade pies and cinnamon rolls were family favorites.

One of Jeannie’s favorite activities was to go on family campouts.  She loved to play games, do crossword puzzles, and sit by the fire.  She’d always bake a huge berry cobbler beforehand and take it to share.  She also enjoyed trips to the ocean and Mt. Rainier.

Jeannie was very active in her church, serving in many ways during the 66 years she was a member.  Whether teaching Sunday School, sewing costumes, running bake sales, helping in women’s ministries, or hosting a banquet or special occasion, Jeannie was always there to lend a hand. She had a servant’s heart.

Jeannie is survived by her husband, Ernie Treadway, of Puyallup; three children, son David Treadway, daughter Tammie (Wade) Carson, and son Scott Treadway, all of Puyallup; two grandchildren, Kristen, and Ryan Carson of Puyallup; sister, Bonnie Grimes, of Tacoma; and her loving nieces, nephew, and cousins.  Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry, and Audry Grimes, of Tacoma; brothers, James, and Joseph Grimes; and sister, Mary Ellen (William) Olson.
