Mary Lee Doran passed away peacefully on May 22, 2021, in Puyallup, Washington. Born to William McKinney Mantz and Margaret Kelly Mantz on September 15, 1942, in Walla Walla, Washington, Mary Lee spent her early childhood at her grandparents' ranch in Waitsburg, Washington, while her father was at war. Later, she lived in various locations both within the U.S. and overseas as her family followed her father's military career. She graduated from Whitman College in 1964 with a B.A. in English Literature. After graduation, she lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for several years, where she met and married Gerald Wayne Doran in 1968. In 1970, they moved to Puyallup, where she would live for the next 51 years. She and Gerald had three daughters before divorcing in 1988.
In addition to her undergraduate degree, Mary Lee obtained a Master of Librarianship degree from the University of Washington School of Librarianship in 1981 and later a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington School of Social Work. She worked for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services for 25 years, retiring in 2008. Mary Lee was active in the PEO sisterhood. She was an enthusiastic and voracious reader, and loved gardens, traveling with her friends, and being a grandmother and cat parent.
Mary Lee is survived by her three daughters Kelly Doran, Kerry Brandt (Jason), and Kendra Hahn (Ray); and her three grandchildren Trina Hahn-Anzalone (Ben), Kyra Brandt, and Jack Brandt.
