Former Enumclaw resident, Mary Martha (Rogers) Strous, 90, of Puyallup, WA went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2023. She was born on August 27, 1933, to Allan Albert and Florence Margaret Rogers in Spokane, WA. Mary graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1952 and went on to work for The Spokane Chronicle, the Federal Way School District and The Boeing Company.
In 1956, she married David Eugene Strous. Mary was very involved in her five children’s activities including volunteering as a Campfire Girl Leader and as a Rainbow Girls Mother Advisor. Mary and David loved traveling in their motorhome and camping with their family. She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. She also was a member and officer of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the Amaranth. Mary will be remembered for her love of her family, her dogs, chocolate, and for her feisty spirit.
Mary is survived by her five children: Deborah Strous-Boyd, Rebecca Mermod (Leonard), Julia Hyres (David), Jennifer DeRosa (James), and Peter Strous (Karen); brother Edward Rogers (Betty); seven grandchildren: Dr. Alexander Hyres (Kristy), Nathaniel Hyres (Samantha), Andrew DeRosa, Heather Hernandez (Manuel), Benjamin Strous, Katie Strous and Kirsten Strous; and three great grandchildren: Elodie Hyres, Lucia Hyres and Norah Hernandez. She is predeceased by her sister Ruth Rogers Boyce (Fred).
Memorial service at Powers Funeral Home, 320 West Pioneer, Puyallup, WA at 1 p.m. on October 7, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be made to The Humane Society.
