Mary passed at age 81, having lived a full life with unwavering grace and dignity. She was born and raised in Long Beach, California where she met and married (on April Fools' Day) her husband of 62 years, Terry Storem. They moved to Puyallup, Washington in 1969 to raise their three children, and later Edgewood, Washington where they remained lifelong residents.
Mary's nurturing disposition compelled her to volunteer for a time, working with blind children, before taking a paid position with Associated Grocers as the mail room manager. A quintessential do-it-yourselfer, she enthusiastically embraced the challenge of figuring out how to make something versus purchasing it, acquiring an ever-expanding skillset. She was always hands-on whether sewing Halloween costumes for her children, flower girl dresses for her granddaughters, or tackling a bathroom remodel among numerous home improvement projects. Tending to her yard, trying out new recipes, and shopping were among her favorite pastimes. She especially cherished time spent with friends and family (including pets), and graciously hosted many gatherings in her impeccably kept home.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Terry Storem and sister Dorothy Matson. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Jennifer) and Mike (Stacy); daughter Teresa (Richard); sister Lois Gouveia; brothers Marvin Larson (Emily) and Robert Larson (Sharon); brother-in-law Levon Matson; and grandchildren April, Jaylynn, Zachary, Aaron, Macoy, and Nikolas.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A memorial service for Mary will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Powers Funeral Home.
