After learning that she had terminal cancer mom chose to enjoy the last few months of her life without complications that might be brought by medical treatment. Mary peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2022. She was 83 years young, always looking forward to the next birthday or family celebration.
Mary was born to John and Virginia Washburn in Seattle Washington on February 10, 1939. She graduated from Port Angeles High School where her father ran a custom furniture business. Over the years, she enjoyed many class reunions, visiting with old friends. She graduated from Seattle Pacific College with an Associate in Arts degree in 1959.
She married the love of her life, Robert Lawrence Kane, October 17, 1959. They were together for 62 years. Early on, they moved to Richmond Beach, Washington, where they raised their family. They had 4 children: Terri, Brian, Kris and Doug. They regularly attended church, being believers and followers of Jesus Christ.
Mary liked to shop and socialize. Her love language was gift giving and she spent her entire life expressing her care for others. She remained fit and healthy all her life. Family gathering were always a joy to Mary. She loved spending time with family, brother John’s (Kathy) family, brother Dan’s (Sharon) family and brother-in-law Gene’s (Kit) family, including 7 nieces and nephews: Greg, Stacey, David, Danielle, Robert, Deidre, and Jonathan.
In 1976, Mary started to work for Women’s Aglow Fellowship. Aglow was a Christian outreach ministry that included small group learning and neighborhood outreach.
Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts from Pacific Christian College in 1992, finishing her 4-year degree. She had a heart for social work, although never employed in this field.
Mary enjoyed travel. She was employed as a travel agent for over a decade. Mary and Robert visited Europe, Israel, Greece, Mexico, Caribbean, Canada, and Fiji. She loved the sun and beach, making many trips to enjoy the islands of Hawaii. She travelled twice to Hawaii and once to Mexico in 2021, despite covid restrictions and health issues.
She also dabbled in art, she most liked landscapes and watercolors. Her paintings were enjoyed by her children and grandchildren.
Mary leaves behind her son Brian (Connie) of Auburn, WA, daughter Kristine (Mark) of Milton, WA, and son Doug (Kristin) of Auburn, WA; 7 grandchildren, Elissa (Jonathan), Jessica, Kyle, Hannah (Zack), Trevor (Kayla), Devyn (Hunter), Lauren, and 5 great grandchildren, Jonathan, August, Emilia, Samuel and Virginia.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother John, daughter Terri and husband Robert.
Memorial services will be delayed due to Covid restrictions.
