Marion Rose Anderson

February 5, 1934 — June 16, 2023

Marion Rose Huber was born 5 February 1934 to Henry Rudolph Huber and Annie Nancy Norman in Valparaiso, Chile. Growing up, she lost her mother at 12 years old and grew quite close to her father and brother, Cyril. With Cyril, and his wife, Adrianna, she remained quite close all the way to the end.

Marion ran track, competing in the high and long jump through high school.

After she graduated, the family moved to England where she began working with the Women’s Royal Army Corps. She liked it so much that she decided to join the Royal Air Force where she made countless friends and met her would-be husband and father of her two children.

After immigrating to the United States with her daughter and husband, Roy, Marion found a career at Weyerhaeuser where she worked for 37 years, during which time she earned an Associate’s degree in accounting.

She loved to travel. In fact, she visited every continent except Antarctica and traveled every tour that her travel agency had available. By train, by plane, by car and by ship, which was how she made her first transcontinental trip when she traveled from her birthplace to England when she was just a year old.

When not visiting her brother and sister-in-law or discovering new places around the planet, Marion stayed close to home in Sumner. She loved to dance with friends and attended as many Polka dances and festivals as she could handle. However, after family, her great love was Mount Rainier which she loved to visit in-person and when she couldn’t visit, she could go to any room in her house to see one of scores of pictures she has throughout her home.

Marion always made herself present. She made eye contact, held your hand and looked you in the eye while she visited with anyone. She was completely there, in the moment until she saw you off down the street and around the corner.

She lived fully and completely and she lived for others. She took care of people and still takes care of them, as she made sure arrangements were made for when this day would come.

Marion is survived by her brother Cyril and sister-in-law, Adrianna and nephew Rafael as well as by her children, Nancy Karen and Gary Wallace Anderson, her grandchildren Oliver Chadwick and Tara Simon as well as her nine great and great-great grandchildren.
