Lucy May (Stalder) Shaffer, age 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday May 6, 2022, at the Memory Haven Care Facility in Sumner Washington. She is survived by three children:  Susan Fae (Mark) Krizer of Sterling, Alaska, William Dean (Barbara) Shaffer of Ridgefield, Washington, and Deborah Mae (James) Johnson of Puyallup, Washington, as well as grandchildren: Mark (Jennie) Brown, Jenna (Scott) Beyer, Matthew Krizer, Rebecca (Nathan) Morrison, Amy Crocker, Luke (Bethany) Shaffer, Anna (Nathan) Mielke, Jeffrey (Jamie) Shaffer, Daniel Shaffer; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buryl Dean Shaffer, and siblings: Rosetta Boydston, Daniel Stalder, Christina Stalder, Robert Stalder, and Gertrude Flower.

Lucy was born in Wymore, Nebraska on September 17, 1924, to Christian Stalder and Florence (Noe) Stalder, the third of 6 children.  She Married Buryl Dean Shaffer May 30, 1953, in Wichita, Kansas. They lived in Clearwater, Kansas, where they raised their children until 1967 when Dean was transferred by Boeing to Auburn, Washington.  They settled in Puyallup where she lived for the last 55 years.

One of her first jobs was working for a wholesale florist where she received and delivered flowers in Wichita.  She found a love for flowers which remained her lifetime.  For the last 35 years, with the help of her daughter Debbie she raised flowers, fruit, and vegetables to share with others and to sell at her roadside stand, with all profits going to Christian mission work, including India Missions

Lucy loved God and Jesus and was an active teacher and worker at the Puyallup Church of Christ for many years.  She supported many missionaries.  She also participated in doing sunshine baskets for members of the church with the help of Paris Rogers, Shannon, Emily, and Nathan Dacca and her daughter Debbie.

A memorial service will be held at the Puyallup Church of Christ on May 14, 2022, at 10:00.

Donations can be made in her memory to Lucy’s favorite charity India Mission work (PO Box 272 Hazel Green AL 35750)
