Louis Torre, 92, passed away peacefully on June 27 in his home in Puyallup, Washington. Lou was born in Tacoma, Washington to Louis and Rose (Reghitto) Torre. He grew up in Fife, Washington, where he was active in FFA and graduated from Fife High School as a member of the “Mid-Century Class” of 1950.
He attended Washington State College (WSU), was active in Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, and graduated with a degree in agricultural sciences. Lou spent his career at the Washington State University extension center, developing several raspberry, strawberry and apple varieties that are commercially grown today.
Lou loved the outdoors and enjoyed summers with his family and friends at the family cabin in Gig Harbor. He was passionate about camping, fishing and mushroom hunting. Lou was also an accomplished gardener, beekeeper and wood worker and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
Lou was preceded in death by his wife Carol and his sister Margie Wilford. He is survived by his daughters Kathy (Clay) Spencer (grandchildren McKenna and Rowan) and Sandy Sutton (grandchildren Cassidy and Jenna) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Ave, Puyallup, Washington on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
