Lois “Aunt Lois” Thompson was a beloved daughter, sister, partner, aunt, and friend during her incredible 91 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, October 17, 2022.
Lois was born June 18, 1931, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Upon moving to the Pacific Northwest at the age of ten, Lois attended elementary, junior, and senior high school in the Puyallup School District, where she graduated top of her class at the age of seventeen. After graduation, Lois went on to receive a degree in accounting. Humbly and without any airs, Lois became a trailblazer, paving the way for all women who dreamed of being and doing more. Upon receiving her degree, Lois worked as a clerk for Tradewell Grocery Stores, but quickly moved into accounting as a result of her aptitude in bookkeeping and reporting, as well as for keeping confidences “confidential.” It was only in the last chapter of her working life, that Lois moved into the accounting department of a local automobile transportation company, followed by retirement.
Lois had a passion for all things outdoors, including camping, hunting, and fishing – passions she generously shared with all her nieces and nephews. But Lois’ greatest passion and comfort was her family. Lois was an active and caring woman who spent most of her life propping up others and supporting family through both passions and difficulties in their lives. Whether it was providing advice, supporting, or encouraging siblings, nieces, and nephews at recitals, games, competitions, or in the rudimentary stages of lifelong dreams, Lois made it her mission to enrich and improve the lives of others.
Lois will be remembered for her loving nature, her mischievous smile, and infinite gift to give of herself. It was in Lois’ stories that she expressed to others her love and her pride in all her nieces and nephews’ achievements, no matter how great or small. She molded hearts to accept, feel, and learn the actions of love, and there was no better feeling than being around Lois, who loved all who knew her, unconditionally. No judgment, no stress, just warmth and love.
Lois will be missed dearly, but all who knew her are undoubtedly grateful for the time shared and will always feel her presence in their hearts.
Lois is survived by her two sisters, JoAnn Scholz (Ken) and Joan Chaplik (Paul), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She is predeceased in death by her partner, Annabelle Hoaguewood, parents, Kathryn (Rice) and Herman Thompson, and brothers, Richard Thompson (Audrey), and Kenneth and Julie Thompson.
