Linda Reid (Gaffaney), a lifelong resident of Pierce County, passed away on October 28, 2022, at the age of 80. Linda was born in 1942 to the late Glen Gaffaney and Doris Gaffaney Olivas, in Tacoma, WA. She was a 1960 graduate of Lincoln High School, received her BA from Evergreen State College in 1983, and her MA from Chapman College in 1996. She worked for many fulfilling years as a guidance counselor at Workforce Central Employment Services and as a Special Needs Counselor at Pierce College. Linda was an active member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Graham. Her talents were many; she was an enthusiastic horsewoman who competed in barrel racing, a beloved mother and grandmother, and a community volunteer. Linda was a helper at heart as evidenced by her service work at the Graham Library and as a long time board member of the Pierce County Historical Association. As a cancer survivor, Linda also volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital, supporting patients undergoing chemo treatment. She enjoyed exploring other cultures and never met an animal she didn’t adore.
Linda is survived by her sons, David (Michelle) Reid and Daniel (Michelle) Reid, sister Cheryl Gaffaney, great-aunt Shirley Carlson, grandchildren Dana, Charlie, and Rachel Reid, nephews Bill Grissom and Robert Hendrix, and the father of her children, Walter Reid. She is preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to express our thanks for the staff at Advanced Care Adult Family Home who all cared for Linda so lovingly. A memorial service will be held November 22nd, at 2pm, at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup.
