Born February 23, 1961, to Patrick and Patricia McKenna in Duluth, Minnesota, Kelly James McKenna passed away on December 23, 2024, at the age of 63.
Kelly’s life was marked by hard work, dedication to his family, and a passion for serving others. He attended the Puyallup School District from first grade through his graduation from Puyallup High School in 1980. At the age of 15, Kelly began working at Noel Restaurant, where he spent his formative years until the age of 19. He then transitioned to work for Dairy Queen, continuing until 1991.
Kelly later found his true calling in landscaping, spending 23 years working with Blue-Sky Landscaping. In his final years of service, he worked as a postal worker for the United States Postal Service, a job he deeply enjoyed. He retired on March 31, 2024, after seven fulfilling years of dedicated service.
After retirement, Kelly enjoyed his final months working alongside his wife, Patricia, in the daycare they had successfully ran together for over 30 years. He was papa to everyone and was loved by so many kids and families over the last 33 years. He loved all the kids at daycare just like they were his own children.
He enjoyed spending time in his garden, reaping the reward of a green thumb. He was the man to turn to when gardening advice was needed. He took his holiday decorating very seriously and took great pride in his Christmas trees.
Kelly is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Patricia, and their three children: sons Tony (wife Carolyn), Nicholas (wife Brittany), and daughter Jessica (husband David), as well as a bonus son, Gavin. Kelly was an incredibly proud grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Anthony, Vincent, Zachary, Bobbi, Madison, Rocco, Wesley, and Bennett, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by his brother, Kevin (wife Kathy), and his brother-in-law, Michael. Kelly’s lifelong friendships were a significant part of his life, and he shared a special bond with Gary and Denise Guilland (daughter Paige) and Paula Shoemaker.
Kelly’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him, particularly his family and friends, who were blessed by his love, humor, and unwavering spirit.
