work in the Public Schools Kathie also used her passion for, and love of, plants as a freelance
landscape consultant and designer. She had a very strong faith in God and was a proud member
of Sound Life Church in Orting, WA.
Kathie married Mark Riehm in 1973 and took on the role of a military spouse raising two
children. She remarried Larry Kent, a proud retired veteran, in 1990. She and Larry enjoyed 30
years of love and happiness until his untimely death in July of 2020. In addition to being a proud
Military Spouse both of her sons would go on to serve their country in the Armed Forces. Kathie
was so very proud to support her family and friends that served in the Military and was known to
be a true Patriot.
Kathie’s favorite hobbies included crafting, landscaping, and gardening. She loved making cards,
scrapbooks, and other collectibles for her family and friends as well as others throughout her
community. Kathie loved to share her joy of gardening with everyone. She was a walking
encyclopedia of plants, flowers, and landscapes and was often the go-to for family and friends
with any plant or gardening questions. Her extensive knowledge of horticulture and genuine care
of her community will be carried on by the landscaping legacy of countless yards and properties
she artfully transformed.
She loved her family and friends deeply. Whether riding Harley’s with Larry and their fellow
bikers, or crafting with her sister, or giving her children and grandchildren a safe place to come
for “Nanna’s” love, it gave her joy ensuring others’ happiness.
Kathie’s heart was always full of love. A strong Christian Her most favorite bible verse was one
that she continuously practiced. With the countless students she touched throughout her career
and with her friends and family she always encouraged love. “Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices
with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always
perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13 4â€7
The family will be having a Celebration of Life for Kathie on June 11th at Sound Life Church in
