Joanne Spooner

October 14, 1930 — July 27, 2020

Joanne Spooner, age 89, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 27, 2020. She was born and raised in the Sumner/Puyallup area and graduated from Sumner High School in 1948. She married Kenneth in 1954. Together they raised their children in the Puyallup Valley and were involved in the berry farming community.

Her loving husband, “Kenny” of 44 years, preceded Joanne in death. She is survived by her children: Jeff (Andrea), Tim (Sue), Pat (Leanne), Carol (Scott), grandchildren: Becky (Jory), Sam (Becca), April, Taylor, Jeffrey, Alex, Kaylee, and great-grandchildren: Elaina, Owen, Julian, Kaden, and Lily along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joanne will be remembered for her great sense of humor and beautiful smile that lasted throughout her life. She truly warmed the hearts of all that met her with her kindness and compassion. Joanne was known for her optimism and fun-loving attitude. One of her favorite sayings was “Enjoy it while you can, it’s later than you think.”

Joanne enjoyed nature - walking the trails at Bradley Lake or Chapman Park with family and friends, sitting in the sun on her deck, playing outdoors with her grandchildren, and beachcombing with her family at Vashon Island. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners and college football (Go, Cougs!).  Most of all, Joanne loved spending time with her family.  She is fondly remembered rocking her grandkids while singing “Farmer in the Dell”; a tradition that has since been past down two generations.

The family has such great memories of Joanne that we will cherish for a lifetime. Her loving, kind spirit will be greatly missed by all and she will be forever in our hearts.
