She graduated from Puyallup High School with honors in 1947. Joanne was 16th in her class, a student librarian, auth of "Bobby Sox Brigade", a book of selected poems and short stories, illustrated and bound. After graduating, Joanne married Gerald Griffith in August 1947. They had three children, Teresa Griffith Schlee (Dan), Susan Pihl (Roger), and James Ellis Griffith (deceased). Joanne most enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, cooking, baking, and attending all our band and sports events. She was our greatest fan. Mom loved crossword puzzles, card games, and Scrabble, and had and amazing vocabulary. Some of her pastimes would include square and round dancing, as well as entertaining family and friends on the Big Creek Buffalo Ranch outside of Cle Elum, Wash. Joanne is survived by her daughters, Teresa and Susan; seven grandchildren, Jason, Jonathan, Jillian, Jordan, Jennifer, and Julie; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Josie, Brady, Spender Adele, Everett, Jett, Brantley, and Hailey Sue. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Jimmy and husband Jerry. Arrangements by Powers Funeral Home.
