James Walter Frost

May 3, 1938 — December 12, 2020

On Saturday December 12th 2020, a wonderful soul was lost to this world.

James Walter Frost, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor and ally of so many, was taken from us to his Heavenly home. He passed, peacefully, while at Good Samaritan hospital recovering from a risky, yet necessary hernia surgery.

The year 2020 has been extraordinarily challenging for everyone and especially hard for Jim Frost. Despite his declining health, Jim was strong to the end and still very mentally fit.

The rest of his family are all doing well. We are all celebrating and honoring the long, full life and tremendous impact he had on so many others.

His surviving family are:

wife Judy Frost,

daughter Andrea Frost Willcox (Paul),

son Martin Frost (Denise),

daughter Terri Moss (Troy),

daughter Megan Frost Romanio (Anthony),

daughter Traci Potter.

Grandchildren of his surviving family are from:

Andrea - Alyson McCoy (husband John) Works, Shannon McCoy and Ben Willcox

Terri - Carrisa Moss (preceded in Heaven), Delaney Moss (Brayden & CC), Aubrey Moss (husband Ben and children Noah, Emma & Caleb) Shoemaker & Jordan Bosley.

Megan - Tyler Frost and Gina Romanio (husband Kenny and baby Ellis) LeVey

Traci – Gavin Robinson

Jim Frost was born in Tacoma, Wa., May 3rd 1938 to Dorothy Evelyn and Cleo (Bud) Merle Frost.

Jimmy was very mechanical. He attended Stadium HS and finished his high school education at Bates Voc Tech, graduating in 1956. During his high school years, at the age of 17, he joined the Navy for a 2-year tour of duty in the Pacific Fleet on board the USS Pritchard (DD-561). Years later, he re-enlisted in the Naval reserves and had a brief stint as a submariner aboard the USS Gurnards (SS-254).

In 1961, Jim married Kathryn Del Woodward. They were married for 19 years and in that time Andrea, Martin and Megan were born. The family lived in Edgewood, Wa in a very close-knit neighborhood and community, which created lasting memories.

While living in Edgewood, he was a volunteer fire fighter and EMT at Edgewood Fire Dept. He was very active in the community serving as an assistant Scout Master in the local Boy Scout troop, as well as coaching youth teams and supporting his children’s sports and musical activities.

In 1980, Jim Frost married Judy Potter and the family increased to 5 children with the addition of Terri and Traci. Soon after, all the kids got married, started new families and he became Papa Frosty. Jim and Judy were married for 40 years.

Jim Frost had a lifelong career in wholesale building products and the manufacturing and selling of Western Red Cedar products. The bulk of his career was with Hall Forest Products. Jim had longstanding business relationships with lumber yards throughout the Puget Sound region. Frosty retired from Hall FP in 2007.

Jim Frost was an excellent baseball player and even in his 70’s, was playing slow pitch softball. While in his 40's he played in an adult soccer league. He was a very aggressive player. Some might say, feared. Jim was also a very fine craftsman. Primarily woodworking.

Frosty grew up a fisherman. His mother and father plied the waters of Puget Sound in their pleasure craft and he had many other fishing partners over his lifetime, including his wife Judy.

Hunting deer and elk was an annual tradition, usually from a base camp at the family cabin on Big Creek in Ashford, Wa. It was built by Jim and Judy Frost and Jim’s brother, Dave Frost and wife Julie (preceded in Heaven).

His lifelong friend Jim Schatz (preceded in Heaven) was always there to keep things orderly: Frost and Schatz, Inc. Their hunting camp referred to them as Jim2 (squared). Jim2 also had a bustling side business remodeling homes and building backyard decks.

James Walter Frost had many nicknames over his long lifetime: Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo (‘Bo as Jimmy Schatz called him), Frosty, Frostman, Frostio’s, Snowman (CB handle back in the ‘70’s). He was a man that you would always remember if you met him and you would, certainly, learn something useful from.

We all loved him dearly and he will surely be missed.

Due to the governor’s pandemic restrictions, funeral proceedings will be limited to direct family only. Please pay your respects online @ https://www.powersfuneralhome.com/listings
