Henry Addison Barry

Henry “Hank” Addison Barry was a caring husband, father, and “Granddaddy.” Henry passed away peacefully at the age of 93 in his home in Tacoma, WA.

Henry was born to Walter Warren Barry and Elsie Fern (Applegate) Barry on July 19, 1928, and raised in Hillsboro, IL. After graduating from high school in 1946, Henry joined the Air Force. On June 4, 1950, he married the love of his life, Joyce Allene Hodgkinson.

Henry and Joyce welcomed two children, Mark and Beth. Henry’s career took the family all around the world. He received many honorable medals during his proud 29 years in the military, with part of his service during the Vietnam war. After Henry retired from the military, he and Joyce purchased and ran a dry-cleaning business, and later, Henry became a realtor. Henry and Joyce loved traveling in their RV and became snowbirds during the winter.

Known in the community to be a kind and honest man, Henry was also a true family man. He loved his family without reserve, and never missed an opportunity to express how proud he was of everyone in his family. He loved to talk about his time in the service, sharing stories of the planes he flew. He had a love for tractors that stemmed from his time growing up on a farm in Illinois.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife Joyce (2021), his daughter Beth (2005), his parents, and both of his siblings.

Henry is survived by his son Mark (Denise) Barry, seven grandchildren: Josh (Sabrina) Gunderson, Jesi (Justin) Gunderson, David Eden, Douglas (Jennifer) Eden, Michael (Natalie) Barry, Mathew (Megan) Barry, Austin (Hanna) Barry, and 15 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will take place on March 29, 2022, from 10 am-12 pm, with the funeral following at 12 pm. Henry will be laid to rest at 2 pm in the Tahoma National Cemetery.
