Harwood Leigh Scouten

February 1, 1938 — November 18, 2022

Harwood (Tiny) Leigh Scouten was born in Rochester, New York in 1938.  He was raised in Fairport, NY by his mother and father; Marie and Arthur (Leigh) Scouten, along with his two older sisters; Shirley and Carol and a baby brother Danny.  Harwood loved telling stories about his childhood and the big house he grew up in on Woodlawn Avenue.  In his teens, he spent most of his time working at the Diddle’s gas station and auto shop where he developed his passion for cars and most importantly, Studebakers. He then left New York to join the Airforce and ended his time in Service at McCord AFB in the Pacific Northwest.  He began his career at United Airlines in 1966 and retired in 1991.  He eventually bought his one of a kind ‘49 Thunderbird and spent some great years going to car shows, winning prizes for his car and participating in Power Tour road trips.   Harwood was the patriarch of a blended family and is survived by his wife Julie, 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

If you knew Harwood aka Tiny, you understand the loss of this great man and what he brought to so many lives in his 84 years.  He was always there to help when someone needed it, he was the king of one-liners and he had the ear of a saint.  There was no question you could depend on Harwood to help, listen or offer advice.

Husband, Father, Grandpa, Friend… you will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Scouten home on Saturday December 3rd from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.  There will be a small ceremony at Tahoma National Cemetery later in December.
