Harry Lee Shiffer

Harry Lee Shiffer, born April 10, 1940 to Floyd and Sarah Shiffer in Blackwell, Oklahoma. They soon moved to Tacoma, Washington when Harry was three years old.

As a young boy, he served as an altar boy in the Catholic Church. He was often found there when his mother didn’t know where he was. He attended Stadium and Wilson High School and after graduation, joined the Marine Corps. where he made lifetime friends that up until the beginning of this year, he still met with for breakfast once a month. He was a member of the Toppers Car Club and spent time at Busch’s drive-in, Hilltop and The Dugout looking and talking about cars. He married Linda Loidhamer of Edgewood in 1965. They began their lives together, settling in Edgewood where they raised their two children Michael and Michelle. He spent time with his young children building a cabin on property at Palmer Lake, and boating through the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands. Harry was a member of the Swiss Sportsmans Club where he participated in many match, rifle and pistol shoots and taught Mike gun safety and the sport of range shooting. He was an incredible shot and teacher. In his prime, he loved to race dirtbikes with his buddy, Mike Kammer.

Harry retired from Flett Dairy in 1995, and was known as “Harry from the Dairy”. He returned to work for Darigold for a short time and also part time for Inderbitzen. Together, Harry and Linda then began their motorhome adventures. They then spent many days at their river house in Desert Aire where he spent lots of quality time with his family, most importantly, his granddaughters, Madison and Elle. He spent countless days hunting pheasant and coyotes with son in law Scott where he was greeted and adored by his two great grandsons Beckett and Hutch and always had a sucker in his pocket for each of them. He enjoyed driving the tractors and looking for wildlife.

He was stubborn as the day is long but was witty with a great sense of humor. He loved teasing his nephews and nieces and you knew you were special if you had a nickname, which all of them did.

Harry will be greatly missed but never forgotten

Harry is survived by his wife, Linda Shiffer (Edgewood), Son Michael (Shelley) Shiffer (Milton), Daughter Michelle (Scott) Rowe (Gig Harbor), Granddaughters Madison and Elle Rowe, and Great Grandsons Beckett and Hutch Marchand.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9th at 1:00- 4:00 at the Day Island Yacht Club.
