Guy Milton Jonas

February 18, 2024 — May 5, 2024

Guy was born in Walla Walla, WA on February 18, 1929.  He was the youngest child of Amelia (Ginny) & Joseph Jonas.  His parents; his brothers, Pete, Bob, & Don; and his sisters Annie Jonas & Shirley Baker; all preceded him in death. Guy was 95 years old.

Guy married his high school sweetheart, Muriel Frances Pierce.  They soon had 2 daughters, Cassandra & Diana and the family moved to Seattle, WA.  Guy learned the construction & siding business & as a salesman earned a good living; eventually starting his own business, Community Construction Co. He always said that when he worked, he worked very, very hard. And when he played, he played as hard as he worked.

He lived in West Seattle most of his life.  When he retired, he became a “snowbird” living in Mesa, AZ 6 months of the year, then Orting, WA the other 6 months.  Eventually he gave up his Mesa home to spend more time with his Seattle area family.

Guy enjoyed life. The1962 Seattle World’s Fair introduced the nation to water skiing. Guy was thrilled, soon purchasing a boat (17’ Glasspar), ski equipment, & fishing gear. The family skied in Lake Washington, Liberty Bay (near Poulsbo, WA), Hood Canal & Lake Flathead, MT.  Guy fished throughout Puget Sound & the San Juan Islands.  He eventually moved up to a more comfortable 24’ Tollycraft.  He named it Aquarius & moored it in La Conner, WA; next door to the San Island Islands. He also went on commercial fishing trips to Westport, Ilwaco, Neah Bay, & Alaska.  He always shared his bounty with friends & neighbors, whether it was steamer clams from Liberty Bay, fresh or canned salmon, fresh halibut, or taking the neighborhood kids waterskiing.

He always had a garden full of vegetables & roses. He loved bragging & sharing the crop.

Guy learned to play golf when he was a teenager.  He spent the rest of his life loving golf.  When he lived in West Seattle, he won the big Seafair Hole-In-One contest. When he retired & became a “snowbird” he had a beloved golfing group in both Orting, WA & Mesa, AZ.

Guy was from a family of baseball players.  His Dad & his brother both played semi professional baseball.  His older brother Pete pitched for the Seattle Rainiers.  Guy was a football player in high school.  He was a lifelong fan of high school, college, & professional sports, especially baseball & football. He fell in love with the University of Washington Husky football team.  He also befriended Don James; had Seasons’ Tickets at Husky stadium; & with the Powers fan club, followed the team to all their away games.

He always loved his life & all his friends until his beloved wife, Muriel died in 2021, at 90 years old. They had been married 73 years.  Guy’s health was also deteriorating.  For 3 very long years he suffered from forced inactivity & necessary Hospice care.

He is survived by his 2 daughters. Cassandra (Sam) Martin & husband Bruce live in Longbranch, WA.  Diana Sifferman lives in Graham, WA.  Her husband of 51 years, Joe Sifferman passed away on April 24, 2023.  Guy has 5 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren.  Joey Burns & husband Pat live in North Bend, OR (kids Jordan & Jake Denbo).  Joseph Sifferman & wife Katie live in Auburn, WA (kids Aria, Ellie, & Lilly).  Todd Martin & wife Melody live in Kent, WA (kids Mimi & Kili).  Benjamin Sifferman & wife Jen live in Arlington, WA (kids Kian & Ava).  Brooke Sifferman lives in Graham, WA.
