Gus Ernie Hayes

Gus was born in San Pedro, Ca to Ernie and Hilda Hayes. The family moved to Sedro Woolley, Wa, when he was 6. He graduated from Sedro Woolley High School with class of 1956. He passed away at Good Sam Hospital in Puyallup on 10/12/2022 from head injury from fall. He was a man of integrity, loyalty, honor, and devotion to his family. He was a joker and trickster who brought laughter to all he knew.

Work history for him was one of Grocery and Retail management beginning with Tradewell Stores at 15, Wigwam Stores, and West Coast Grocery (Super Valu) as non foods wholesale buyer. He was proud of the fact that he had handled hundreds of thousands dollars of cash for Tradewell and Wigwam and never lost a dime. As a manager her was trustworthy, reliable, empowering of his crew, and had the respect of anyone who worked for him

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Janet Myers Hayes;daughters Lori Caviezel (Mike); Terry Belfield (Randy); Kristy Winters (Mike); sons Gus Jr, Ron, and Randy; sister Joyce Tilley (Bill); brothers Barry (Leigh) and Rodney (Kandy); 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Andrew, and granddaughter Kelsey

He faced the  daily ravages of Lewey Body Dementia, chronic pain and heart disease with courage and dignity for over a decade until a fall released him from their grasp to join his family and friends outside of time. There are no words for how much he was loved and is missed.

A graveside service will be held in early spring at Sedro Woolley Union Cemetery.
