Elvera Sue Brown

Elvera (Sue) Brown was born on March 15, 1927, as Elvera Leone Karnowski, to Charlotte Ann (Magnuson) Karnowski and Henry Arthur Eric Karnowski in Carlton Minnesota. From her youth, she excelled in science, music, piano playing, and choral singing in high school. Sue graduated from Carlton High School in Carlton, Minnesota in 1945. She attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Duluth, Minnesota and graduated in 1949. Sue then moved to Tacoma Washington and began work as a registered nurse at Tacoma General Hospital. Sue married James C Brown Jr in 1957 and moved back to Carlton Minnesota where she had the first three of her five children. Then moved back to Tacoma, Washington, in 1963 where she and her husband raised all five children and continued to live in Tacoma for the rest of their lives. Sue is proceeded in death by her parents, Charlotte and Henry Karnowski, and by her husband, James C Brown Jr. Sue is survived by her five children. Michael Brown of Puyallup, Steven Brown, of New York City, Paul Brown (Renee) of South Prairie, Colleen Brown (Duane), Heitzman of Orting and Kathleen Brown Rogers of Tacoma. She was also survived by eight grandchildren: Brandi Heitzman-Morehouse (Clayton), Bailey Heitzman, Sydnie Heitzman, Sammantha Heitzman, Jessica Brown, Marcie Brown, Joshua Rogers, and Daniel Rogers. Sue is also survived by three great grandchildren Klara Morehouse, Edward Morehouse, and. James Morehouse. Sue was a devoted Christian since childhood and a member of Praise Covenant Church. She continued her interest in music throughout her life by singing in church choirs, and instilling musical and dance skills in all her children through their upbringing. Sue loved to entertain, watch movies, Broadway shows, and spend time with her family, children, and friends. Sue was known as cookie grandma to all grandchildren.
