Elinor Barnes

March 23, 1933 — April 18, 2020

Elinor Jeanette Barnes

In loving memory of Elinor J. Barnes of Puyallup, Washington, who passed away peacefully on the evening of April 18, 2020.  She was born March 23, 1933, in Axtell, Kansas, to Albert and Mabel Johnson.  She met Robert M. Barnes in college and they married December 26, 1955.

Elinor enjoyed her childhood in a small Kansas farming community.  She moved with her father to Seattle, Washington, during high school, after her mothers death.  She excelled in school and graduated from the University of Washington as a pharmacist, one of the few women in the field.

She enjoyed camping, hiking, garden club, and travel, especially spending winters in Arizona. Elinor played the piano and loved music.  She volunteered at Holden Village, Relay for Life, and Sickle Cell Camp.  She was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bellevue, Washington.

Elinor was an outstanding wife, mother and grandmother.  She derived great joy from raising her children and was active in the lives of her grandchildren.  She is survived by her husband Robert, son Steve (wife Teresa and grandson Alex) and son Doug (wife Melanie and grandchildren Jordan and Megan).  She was known for her wonderful chocolate chip cookies.  Elinor was a loving, caring, generous, kind person who will be greatly missed.

Donations in memory of Elinor can be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
