Donald Ross Vose

Don was born April 7, 1958, in Sacramento, CA and lived life to the fullest for 65 years on this beautiful earth. He passed away peacefully at Good Sam Hospital in Puyallup, WA on July 18, 2023, with his loving family by his side.

Graduated from Casa Roble High School, CA in 1976 where he played Football, Basketball and Baseball and maintained good grades. Mother Jackie, sister Debbie and brother Cliff supported and cheered him on in sports and in life. He loved and cherished them with all his heart. Traveled to visit with them most years, doting on nephew Matthew and niece Michelle on birthdays and holidays. Family trips included Bailey family reunion and an incredible trip to DC, which he talked about to this day. He visited his dad and Rosie (dad’s wife) in Germany many times and made good memories with them, typically including golfing.

Every year, Don would go stay with his best friend and his wife, Jerry & Michelle. Their friendship and home were a haven for Don. He always enjoyed his time with them. It’s incredible to witness such a strong friendship that stood the test of time, as they had become friends as children and had been through many shenanigans and life events together.

Don loved to laugh, have fun with friends, play sports as a youth, watch sports as an adult, ride his motorcycle, golf, and travel. He also was a good employee and businessman. He started out in his twenties working the roof, and over the years eventually moved toward business ownership by starting his own roofing company in Eastern Washington.

Eventually he came back to the Puget Sound. Well-known and respected in the roofing community, Don was involved with the Roofing Contractor Association of WA for over 35 years. Co-owner of Legends Roofing Company from its start in 2002, he worked closely with L&I in Olympia and was a champion of roofer safety for many years. He felt a strong sense of responsibility to his business partners, employees, and customers to provide good service and have a place where people want to come to work each day while making a good living. He has made many friends in roofing over the years and cares deeply about all of them. Don was the type of person who would support others in their dreams even if it meant losing them as a valued employee. He was a mentor to many.

All his family and friends opened their home and hearts to Mimi (wife) from the start, with open arms. There was always life to live with Don, whether Ray & Theresa treated them to a concert at the Puyallup, or attending the RCAW Gala with them, Marco, and his daughter. There was always dancing or singing at the end of that night. Throughout the years there was boating or biking with Tim, Cass and others, or music nights with Mimi’s childhood friends Denise, Kir, and Lisa. Don’s In-Laws and family loved him like he was their own son and always referred to him as a good man.

One of the most endearing things about Don was his love for the Hallmark channel movies, specifically because they always had happy endings. Although Mimi was not historically into those types of movies, it quickly became their thing. Weekend dates would include a Hallmark movie and popcorn.

Mimi feels so blessed to have met this man who became the love of her life. They loved and respected each other, and they loved to laugh together. When they met in 2006, Mimi was a divorced mother of two. They dated for many years while she raised her children Genna and Jake. They did many fun outings with the kids, as well as spending time with each other.

Once her children had graduated from high school and grown up, Don asked Mimi to marry him, and she said “yes”. They were married in 2017 and she moved in with him at his home in Puyallup. Their love story continued for more than 5 years. Their friend Theresa helped Mimi put into words her feelings about Don: “Don you were made for me and I for you.”

We appreciate all the love and support received from our friends, family, and co-workers after Don found out he had cancer. The cancer had reduced in size, but his body was not strong enough to continue the fight and we have lost a great man. We especially appreciate all the members of his family and Jerry & Michelle who constantly checked on him and traveled to WA many times to help since last November. Michelle who contracted Visiting Angels and ADT for us when I was too frozen to move. In addition, he was grateful to Denise and Theresa who constantly called or came over and checked on both of us. We are so grateful to Ray who built a wheelchair ramp for him the same day we called and asked if it was even possible and provided much needed medical equipment.

You only live once…but if you work it right, once is enough.

Don, I am SO sad you are gone, but I know you would look me in the eyes and say, “Mimi, it is what it is” and tell me you love me.

Survived by wife: Michèle “Mimi” Courvoisier; sister: Deborah (Vose) Peterson & brother-in-law Jan, brother: Cliff Vose & sister-in-law Teri; and his father, Clifford Vose’s wife Rosie. Younger generation stepchildren: Genna and Jacob Coyne (Michèle Courvoisier); nephew: Matthew Peterson & wife Manisha Shah; niece: Michelle (Peterson) Hite & husband Adam and son: Isaac. Preceded in death by mother, Jacquelyn “Jackie” (Bailey) Vose; father, Clifford Vose.
