David Arthur Hansen was born on December 31, 1927, in Puyallup, WA, to Arthur and Florence Hansen. He passed away at home in Edgewood, WA, on February 23, 2025, at 97.
David was the oldest of four children and grew up in the Sumner Valley. He left school after 8th grade to work and help his family out. In his early years, he was employed as a gardener on the estate of Mrs. Charles Orton and later as her chauffeur. He also trapped moles in the flower bulb fields.
David was drafted into the Air Force in 1946, spending time in Okinawa, Japan, and served his country until 1947. After being discharged from the military, David attended his annual church convention in Olympia, WA. There, his sister Hilda introduced him to her friend, Fern Newman. David went on to tell Hilda, “Sis? You keep in touch with her, ‘cause SHE IS NICE.”
David married the love of his life Fern in 1954, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. David and Fern had their first two children and, for a time, welcomed his brother Tyke’s three children Art, David, and Lorraine into their home before going on to have two more children.
David fully committed to serving God in 1947, and after being married a few years, David and Fern also enjoyed having Bible study and fellowship meetings in their home for almost sixty years until his passing.
David worked at Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. as a marine electrician for thirty-seven years and retired in 1990. He enjoyed fixing and creating things in his shop at home, gardening, and helping others alongside his beloved wife, Fern.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Arthur; his wife, Fern; and both brothers, Richard and Allen. He is survived by his sister, Hilda Hansen, of Milton; daughter, Heather Hansen; and sons, Fred (Jolene), of Olympia; Jerry (Susan), of Edgewood; and Keith (Anita), of Shelton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
