Carl Lee Huber

Carl Lee Huber died Tuesday January 8, 2019 at University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance with his children holding vigil as he wrestled with the effects of lung cancer. Carl was born in Seattle on August 14, 1938, son of Bruno and Evelyn Huber. He leaves this life prior to his wife Beverly Ann Huber and his children Chuck Huber (Wife Sheryl) and Alyson Martin (Husband Allen), and his step-children Cindy Osborn (Husband Larry) and Linda Richards (Partner Jeff Chambers). He was grandpa to seven grandchildren and great grandpa to one great grandchild. He was "like a father" to many others, a mentor to some, and friend to a multitude of people. Carl was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States in September 1964 after serving 4 years. Up until the day he died he continued to support the Armed Forces by sending supplies to the troops overseas through Veterans Service Foundation of Washington. He spent most of his career at Totem Electric of Tacoma, working many long hours bidding jobs but always made time for his kid's events. He retired in 1996 and spent many enjoyable days on the Sea Angel with his wife, whom he lovingly referred to as his first mate. There were many days spent in Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound. The boating days were cut short due to the onset of his first mate's Alzheimer's. Up until the mid-1970's, Carl loved camping at the "Dunes" with his close friends every Memorial Day weekend. The "Dunes" was a sand-dune in Moses Lake where four families and friends would overload their trucks and boats with gear to enjoy friendship, swimming, water skiing, and worship in an isolated landscape of sand. Shortly after retiring Carl and Bev moved to Arizona to enjoy the sunshine and longer softball seasons. Carl had a long history playing fast pitch and slow pitch softball starting with his church team at Glendale Evangelical Lutheran Church. He played on multiple teams in Arizona and in the summer when living back home in Seattle area, he played/managed on two other softball teams. He enjoyed immensely the comradery of his teammates, the competition of the game and had the bruises and strains to show for it. Carl and Bev moved permanently back to Seattle as Bev's illness continued to be more challenging and to be closer to their children. Through the progression of his wife's disease, Carl unselfishly and without complaint cared for his wife with the help of some tremendous care providers, Ching Behnken, Ping and Angelo Daga-as, Mila Umagat, and Angelina Jimenez. Carl lived by the JOY principle, Jesus first, Others Second, Yourself last. There was not a day when this principle was not followed. Carl was a proud member of Glendale Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church for 56 years. He was not only a member, but at times served as Elder, Council President and all-around handy man keeping the church facilities up and running. He served our Lord Jesus Christ through his works and unapologetic profession of his faith. He served his family and others through his incredible strength to lean on, his council and his love. Taking care of the "J" and "O" is what made him happy. Dad, husband, teammate, and friend. He will be severely missed. But we will always remember his incredible and long- lasting impact on all our lives.
