Bruce Gilbert Hunt, 91, died peacefully on October 24, 2021 with family by his side.
Bruce was born on November 4, 1929 to Newell and Alice Hunt in Puyallup, WA. He graduated from Puyallup High School in 1947 and was Class President his Senior year. He attended the College of Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound) where he was active in Adelphians and the Sigma Xi fraternity, graduating with a BA in business administration.
Bruce married Juanita “Bo” Parker in 1951. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier this year. He spent 2 years in the US Army during the Korean War stationed in Ft. Richardson and Elmendorf Air Field in Anchorage where he was a data processor. Upon returning to civilian life, he purchased the Western Auto store in Puyallup and retired in 1981.
Daughter Sally was born in 1959. The family moved to Brown’s Point in 1963, the year of daughter Susan’s birth.
Bruce was an avid fisherman and loved boating in South Puget Sound. During his retirement he enjoyed following ship traffic in and out of the Port of Tacoma from his home’s waterfront view of Commencement Bay. He belonged to the Tacoma Yacht Club, sang tenor in the Orpheus Club of Tacoma, and was active in Kiwanis. He helped organize reunions for his Puyallup High School class for 50 years. Bruce also organized the “South Sound Fishing Society” in 1990 which included as many as 25 local fishermen. He loved eating lutefisk, clams, and Snickers. We will all miss him so very much.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Warren. He is survived by his wife Bo, daughters Sally Hunt (John Crest) of Tacoma and Susan Hunt (Dick Gomulkiewicz), and grandchildren Sam, Sophie, and Ellie Gomulkiewicz of Moscow, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Anderson Island Fire Rescue (12207 Lake Josephine Blvd, Anderson Island, WA 98303).
