Heaven has gained a wonderful angel.

Bernie passed away peacefully after a courageous 3 1/2 year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Ron; daughter Stacie Lacina (Ed) and granddaughters Madeline and Abigail. She is preceded in death by her parents Jim and Betty Boland and sister Annette Emard.

Bernie met the love of her life, Ron, at 14 years old and have been married for 54 years.Those 54 years brought many wonderful adventures and memories. Bernie enjoyed winters in Palm Springs, especially when the family would come for golf, sun and pool time. She loved boating and fishing and spent many a weekend in West Port on board the Staci Ann entertaining family and friends for fishing and fun.She was an avid skier and would travel the country hitting the slopes. Most recently she honed her remodeling/decorating skills at their home on Hood Canal...making it a place that people loved to gather, and always greeted every visitor with a big hug and "Welcome to the beach!"

Family meant everything to Bernie. She loved adventures and vacationing with Ron. Chatting with son-in-law Ed about all of life's big questions. But most of all, her greatest joy was her daughter Stacie, and granddaughters Maddie and Abbie. She loved "her girls" more than anything. The joy she exuded whenever they were together was immeasurable. From Holidays, to shopping excursion to sitting and visiting for hours on end, those were the things that meant the most.

Anyone who knew Bernie loved her. She was kind, honest, generous to a fault and classy with just the right amount of sass to keep everyone on their toes.During her cancer battle she never once lost sight on what is truly important...a life well lived. She handled each day with courage, grace and never a word of complaint. She is truly one of the greatest people to have walked the earth.

She will be greatly missed, but we know her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to live on through her family and friends. Everyone who has met her is just a little bit better because of it.
