Michael "Shane" Merrill, beloved son and brother passed away June 4, 2021 in Puyallup, Washington. Shane was born in Boise, Idaho to Gene and Margaret Merrill. His position in life was taken up early as the overlord to the 3 brothers which came later. He took it upon himself to be guardian, protector, and caregiver to insure his brothers did as they were told and he was always in the know of where to find them late at night during their High School years in Wasilla, Alaska.
At the age of 4 he moved to Federal Way, Washington with his family along with 2 brothers. He made another big move to Eagle River, Alaska adding another brother to the mix. He would write notes saying "Do not ring bell, knock quietly, baby is sleeping, and the means you Stewart and Toby" and tape over doorbell. So this was his designation fro life to his brothers.
Shane excelled in school and was chosen to participate in the People to People International Tour where he traveled to Hawaii, Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Japan. His second language of Spanish came in to play when his home stay parents in Japan spoke Spanish as their second language.
Shane continued his education in Anchorage at UAA. Costco just opened a new store and Shane decided to apply for a position and was hired on immediately. Shane quickly moved up in the company and from there was on his way. He moved to Seattle, Washington with Costco then to Wenatchee, Washington making great friendships along the way. His home was open to all. His youngest brother, Robert lived with him while going to college as did Lauren, his friend Becky's daughter who came and graduated from High School. He decided to move closer to his brother Robert and family so transferred to Seattle with Costco. Shane went on all the family gatherings whether weddings to Hawaii for brother Stewart and Julie, anniversaries for brother Toby and Kellie, sailing the Caribbean, and doing Disney World, with the niece and nephew. During the last 20 years, Shane, along with his unmatched full belly laughter was a permanent fixture to the family gathering held at his brother, Robert's place with all the families. He most enjoyed giving critiques on clothing and hairdos to those close that could take a riibbing especially the older generation. After giving such critiques he would engage in unmatched belly laughter with the recipient. Shane enjoyed the unique designation as Frunkle (Friend, Uncle) from his nephew Ryder. Shane spent many days taking care of Ryder. They especially enjoyed going to movies. "Star Wars" was a favorite for both of them. His family was his life and it was full.
Shane is survived by his mother Margaret, and his brother Stewart (Julie) daughters Makenna, Olivia, Emily, brother Toby (Kellie) son Maverick, daughter Kaylee, brother Robert (Brandy) son Ryder, Daughter Ruby. He is preceded in death by father Gene and grandparents. Shane will be sorely missed by his family and so many friends he made in the 32 years he worked at Costco. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Arthritis National Research Foundation, or charity of your choice.
There will be a private ceremony June 9, and reception catered by Costco on June 11, 4pm at Robert and Brandy Merrill, for family and fiends.
